Discover the Lies About Anti-Ageing: What Beauty Brands Don’t Tell You

Hi Ladies! Let’s Talk About the Biggest Lies We’ve Been Sold

If you’ve ever felt anxious about a new wrinkle or felt pressured to buy expensive creams just to “stay young,” you’re not alone. The beauty industry spends billions convincing us that ageing is a problem—a disease that needs a cure. But here’s the truth: ageing is natural, beautiful, and something you can approach with grace—not fear.

I’m 47, and I’ve heard it all. People ask me all the time why I don’t look my age. Honestly? It’s not magic. It’s a mix of daily rituals, inner work, and smart choices—not throwing thousands at “miracle” products.

Before we dive in, let’s talk about the biggest lies they’ve told us:

The Biggest Lies About Anti-Ageing

Lie #1: Ageing Makes You Less Beautiful
Society trains us to believe youth equals beauty. That’s a lie. Confidence, energy, and self-care are what make you magnetic—not your birth year.

Lie #2: You Need Luxury Skincare to Stay Young
The truth? Most expensive creams use the same ingredients as drugstore products. What you’re paying for is branding and packaging.

Lie #3: Anti-Ageing is Only About Products
Nope. Your gut health, sleep, mindset, and stress levels matter more than any cream. Beauty starts inside.

Disclaimer

The information shared in this blog is based on my personal experience and the products I currently use. It is not intended as medical advice. Before starting any new skincare product, supplement, or treatment—especially if you are pregnant, nursing, have an existing medical condition, or are taking any medication—please consult your doctor or a qualified healthcare professional. Some ingredients can interact with medications or cause unexpected reactions, so it’s always better to be safe.

So grab a drink, a pen, and some paper because class is in session!

Products You Don’t Need (Yet!)

Let’s start with the things you do NOT need in your skincare kit—and why.

1. Eye Cream (for Now)

You heard me right—skip the eye cream for now. Don’t get hooked on marketing hype. You do not need an eye cream unless you’re dealing with:

  • Wrinkles (and if you follow my steps, you shouldn’t have this issue until your 50s or 60s!)
  • Dark circles from lack of sleep or hormonal changes
  • Puffiness due to ageing

Until then, your regular moisturiser is enough. Save your coins for when you actually need one—not because TikTok said so.

2. Gritty Exfoliants

Ladies, this one is worse than a waste of money—it speeds up ageing! Those scrubs with sharp particles literally scrape your skin, damaging your barrier. A damaged skin barrier = infection risk, sun damage, and overproduction of melanin (hello hyperpigmentation and melasma). We don’t want that!

The #1 Rule for Slowing Ageing: Fix Your Gut!

If your gut is a mess, forget anti-aging—your skin will show it. A healthy gut = clear, glowing skin, healthy hair, strong nails, and fewer wrinkles. If you need more info on gut health.

After consulting your doctor, consider adding digestive enzymes to support your digestion. Trust me, this is the foundation of real anti-ageing.

Skincare Essentials That Actually Work

Now that we’ve cleared the myths, let’s talk about what you DO need.

Step 1: Face Wash

Step 1: Face Wash

Keep it simple and affordable. Dermatologists swear by drugstore cleansers. I use Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser (£8.50) for my oily skin, and it’s perfect.

Step 2: Treatments

This depends on your skin concerns. For me, it’s melasma from harsh exfoliants. I use Vitamin C—yes, it costs a bit because making a potent formula is expensive. If you’re over 40, splurge on a good one. Under 40? A drugstore version works fine. I love Vitamin C SuperdoseVitamin C C-Suite Rapid Action Power Brightener

.

Step 3: Moisturizer

Step 3_ Moisturiser

Again, no need to splurge. A good drugstore option is fine. I personally love Skin Daily Moisture Lotion with peptides & physalis extract.

Step 4: Sunscreen (The Goddess of Youth)

Step 4_ Sunscreen (The Goddess of Youth) (2)-2

SPF is EVERYTHING. I go all in with SPF 50+, even though studies shows that SPF 30+ is more than enough. For dark skin, it is recommended to opt for a tinted sunscreen and If you wear makeup, let the SPF absorb first for a couple of minutes before applying. make up You MUST, reapply sun screen every 2–3 hours. For all my makeup geek ladies, I have got you, Garnier Over Makeup Super UV Protection Spray. can be applied over your make up and even better, every time you do reapply it, it will reset/refresh your make up so it lasts even longer.

And if you feel extra fancy, wanting to give mother nature run for her money, between the months of March to August, take extra sun protection supplements called Polypodium Laucotomos Extract, triple sun protection from inside out. Why? I like that question, do some research and see how wonderful this product is.

Step 5: Double Cleansing

Step 5_ Double Cleansing

After a day of makeup or pollution, double cleanse! Start with an oil cleanser, then follow up with your regular cleanser. This not only will keep your skin squicky clean but also clenses your pores.

Step 6: Night Cream & Retinol

Step 6_ Night Cream & Retinol

Under 30? Stick to your moisturiser you really do not need anything extra. Your skin is in its optimum and does a good job of shading dead skin. Over 30? Say hello to retinol. This is your real anti-aging warrior. Start slow and research the right strength for you. When people first start using Retinol, they hate it, they say, it breaks them out, and it dries their skin out which is the opposite of why one would spend money to buy skincare product at the first place.

What they don’t know is that this is a normal process when using Retinol. It helps remove the buildup from the inside out, which is why breakouts happen. Dermatologists say that if you experience this, it’s a good sign the product is working. If you persevere, your skin will balance itself out once it has purged all the impurities, leaving you with soft, wrinkle-free, moisturized skin to die for.

Step 7: Non-Physical Exfoliation

As we age, skin cell turnover slows. Help your skin out with chemical exfoliants:

Never use these on the same night as retinol!

Step 8: Overnight Wrinkle Eraser

Meet my miracle: Medicube Collagen Wrapping Mask. It smooths out fine lines overnight—seriously. Use this on days your skin feels dry or stressed.

Step 9: Lip Care

Step 9_ Lip Care

Nothing is sexier than soft, plump lips. Brush your lips gently while brushing your teeth to exfoliate, then apply an overnight lip mask. During the day, keep them hydrated with a nourishing balm with SPF during the summer months and a highly hydrating for the winter months to keep them from cracking.

Bonus Tips: Sleep & Lifestyle

Sleep For Longevity

Good sleep = no dark circles, better skin regeneration, and no late-night snacking. Pair this with a healthy gut, and you’ve unlocked the fountain of youth.
